Lake Erie and Vermillion River Lighthouse

Lake Erie and Vermillion River Lighthouse by NorthwoodsArts

Lake Erie and Vermillion River Lighthouse

I have a huge amount of work in this piece of art. The original lighthouse at Vermillion Ohio was dismantled in 1929 after having been on duty since 1877. The good citizens of Vermillion wanted their lighthouse back and worked very hard to get it replaced.

Finally, the exact replica was dedicated on June 6, 1992 and now serves as a museum and active mariners’ beacon.

this one is so pretty! I like that propellor that looks like a sideways bow! Those colors are so deep – I love the red, especially.

Hi LaRee, Vermillion River Lighthouse is also a maritime museum and the prop, anchor and unseen ship’s bell are on the grounds. This lighthouse is actually made of metal. According to the research I did before painting this, the original one was put in place in a matter of days. Very little red tape to wade through. :) The replacement replica took years to get in place. ;)
