Artist's Description

My children (and me) call the lacewings that flutter into our home on summer evenings, “Fairy Bugs” as they look just like fluttering little fairies as they make their way up to the lights. So where is one when you have a camera in hand??

Lacewings are Ant lions which are a group of insects in the family Myrmeleontidae. The Lace wing is often a predator herself but does so graciously, the Larva on the other!! I found this ant loin larva wandering about (instead of his usual sand trap or tunnel), but with a very thorough camouflage on his back. Considering these guys hardly win the beauty stakes I used a couple of shots of this guy and some shots of bark and stuff nearby for textures to create this collage of an Ants nightmare!
