Royal Spoonbill, Platalea regia by

Try as I might I could not get close to this Royal Spoonbill (Platalea regia) for a close-up. His Body Guards (the Eastern Grey Kangaroos – (Macropus giganteus)) warned him even though I was sneaking through tick infested shoulder high grass in full chamo gear (Ghilly suit). Oh well now I have something to do again tomorrow!!

PS I had origonally call the roos Macropus fuliginosus (which is the WESTERN Grey Kangaroo) Thank you tarnyacox, for pointing out my error!

Nice try Norm… funny how animals work together sometimes… rotten sods.

  • You know I asked myself “Why was he sop wary Iof me when there where all those bloody great Kangaroos thumping through his patch?” I think I need to get a Kangaroo suit instead of the Chamo gear!!!!
    Thanks Phillip.

I like the legs of the roos in the background there – a hot day? (btw – did you mean Western grey kangaroo?). Such a spectacular bird – good luck tomorrow!

  • Thank you very much Tarnyacox, you’re really on the ball. I did mean Eastern Grey Kangaroo (being in Coffs Harbour NSW) but should have said Macropus giganteus NOT Macropus fuliginosus!! I’ll change that but thanks heaps for picking that up, not many would have!

    Regards Norm

Great white hunter has done extraordinarily well , the pedestrians are everywhere, difficult to avoid, yet lets not lose sight of the wonderful capture and laugh at the irony……good capture Norm
Colin…still out West of the Divide at times…

Very cool, Norm. I like the roos in the background. I think birds do that on purpose, just so they can tell thier friends later and have a good laugh.
  • Thanks Mick, It’s a conspiracy!!! I’m sure they do let a big laugh at the expense of us Clumsy Humans.

OMG! Great shot. I think the kangaroos in the background really enhance the image!

  • Thanks Margot, perhaps they were a little jealous that I was trying to shoot the bird and not them??
