This photo (of my son Chris) was blurred (camera shake) taken spontaneously under bad natural light. Even though it was a poor photo I was struck by the dark mood it showed (sometimes the content is more important than the quality of the shot?) so in comes Photoshop. The photo was altered in a number of ways. Initially I sharpened as much as possible using the High Pass method and after cleaning up the noise and artifacts applied the Orton effect (softening it again!), then using a number of masked adjustment layers, I applied some filters (eg Dark Strokes), played around with the blending modes to get it to what still represented the original impression I had of this shot!
I’ve subsiquently reduced all but the face to grey scale following a suggestion from Duncan Waldron. Thanks Duncan.
