Graphic Flutterer Dragonfly - Rhyothemis graphiptera by

Another shot of Graphic Flutterer Dragonfly – Rhyothemis graphiptera before I was distracted by a snake. I liked the face on this as it reminds of some animated cartoon character!!

Another good one, Norm. Man, you really get right down on these guys, don’t you. Very nice work.
  • Thank you Mick. I’m on leave at the moment and was hoping to get some great new bird shots but we’re having a hot dry summer this year and the birds are all under cover. The Dragon flies are offering a great alternative at the moment!

Awesome Norm, I know how hard these guys are to shoot, you have done brilliantly!

  • Thank you Steve, I’ve ;leant a few tricks with these over the past few days. It seems SOME species keep returing to a favorite “perch” so a little patience seems to pay off! (funny how it’s species related not just individials that do this!!) By the way this is the first and only Graphic Flutterer Dragonfly I’ve spotted around here.

That’s gorgeous! What a great shot!

Didn’t realise they were our already. Will have to look for them in Sydney.

Request from an amateur – please – which lens did you use for the shot?

  • Thanks Daphne, I’ve put the shooting details in the description. I don’t see many of these up here (Coffs Coast), but they are interesting as they flutter slowly (rather than buzz around like most Dragonflies) and have a tendency to land on the same spot after each flight!
    Good luck.
