Yellow-striped Flutterer Dragonfly by

I was in a rainforest at Woolgoolga looking for Whte Headed Pidgeons when I spotted this unusual Dragon Fly. Unfortunately I only had my 400m “Birding” lens so had to make do under the poor light. A fast macro lens would have been great!

Yellow-striped Flutterer Dragonfly flies with fluttering in slow speed, gliding most of the time. Its wings are much longer than its body. they fly slowly, usually gliding instead of flying. If they fly, they flutter their wings slowly. They can change speed and direction suddenly when flight. This dragonfly is easily recognized.

Good detail and color, Norm. Another good capture.
  • Thanks Mick, I was pretty happy with this considering I had the wrong gear and it was in a very dark rainforest.

Good one Norm. I think I might have seen one of these a few days ago at Garden Mania. It was certainly flying like no other dragonfly I’ve seen, and seemed to have clear wings. Desperately wanted it to settle on something!

Very nice detail, especially with using a 400mm lens.

  • Thank you Stephen, I’m lucky this 400mm L series lens is so good. Sometimes though you can’t get close enough using a macro lens.
