Never to be a Butterfly

Normf

Emerald Beach, Australia

Artist's Description

Orchard Swallowtail larva with Chalcid Wasp – Chalcidoidea family. Perhaps you may not have noticed the small Chalcid Wasp near the head of this pupating caterpillar. But as it settles down the wasp will lay its eggs and after a time it will be the wasps children (who have fed on the body of the caterpillar) who will fly away to start the Cycle again. The Orchard Swallowtail is often found on citrus trees.
