Fungi Season 24

Fungi Season 24

I’ve been looking for some Amanita muscaria without success but I thought I might just put up a few other “guys” I found while looking. These tiny guys were growing out of a recently fallen old stag (dead tree). Not colourful but cute just the same.

Very nice image!! What a beautiful silvery colour these have. Cheers Esther

  • Normf replied

Thanks Esther. I still haven’t got Bruce Frhers new book yet but I’ve picked up his ealier field companion. Should help me put some a guess at genus if not the species. I didn’t realise so little was known about the vast number of Australia fungi!

  • Normf replied

Oh would these be an agarics of maybe the Leucocoprinus or Coprinus or maybe Marasmius sp. Dam I don’t really know!!

    Esther van de ...

Don’t panic. I know the feeling . Looking through the books and they all look alike. So frustrating . It also could even me a Mycena species. But more likely Coprinus I reckon because of it’s rounded top. Cheers Esther

  • Normf replied

Thanks for your encouragement Esther. This just makes the challenge more interesting. Maybe I should learn how to take spore prints? (or is that getting tooo serious?)

  • Esther van de Belt

    Esther van de ...

No Normf it can come in very handy when you want to identify them. We do it sometimes. Just take some paper bags into the bush with you. Put your fungi in there. Different species in separate bags. Take home and put on black and white paper. Carla and I has an image to show you. I ll add mine in a minute. Then after a few hours you can see the result. Cheers Esther

    G’day NormF!

What a lovely quartet of little bonnets you have here.
Exposed beautifully in glorious light with a nice sharp focus, nice encompassing depth of field and a not-too-tight composition.
I really like these bonnet shapes and their different rakish angles.
I won’t attempt to identify them as I would only be guessing. Contact Steve Axford (RB). He may know.
