Found these in the Springbrook National Park, Queensland, Australia.

This still has a question mark over it, but it may be a new species of Ghost Fungus (Omphalotus spp [Maguire 2009]), that is currently being researched. Below is a link to the Webpage…etc:

They are Bio-luminescent. Unfortunately, not seen here. Still searching when I do go at night though.

VERY beautiful…my guess that even though it’s wet? these are possibly slightly slimey as well? Not sure……….but check Waxy Caps or Hygrophorus species maybe?
I should probably ask first if these are growing on wood or soil? If on wood, maybe a type of Mycena? hmmmm

  • Hi Carla, FYI, I sent this image to the Springbrook Research Centre for an opinion. It looks like a fungi they are currently studying in the area. I have made a link to that research. Thank you for your inquisitive mind!

Hi Carla, Thanks for the visit. These were growing from wood. I didn’t touch them so I can’t say if they were slimey. I don’t recall having seen ‘gills’ underneath either, if that helps. I have looked up the name hints you gave, but no success as yet. Thanks again!

Wow that s really amazing. So clear and so different

  • Thanks for popping in Karina. My tripod got broken so I had to hand hold the camera. I took so many photos of this and managed to stay still long enough…finally. I appreciate you comments.
