The Treachery of Copyright Images.
This image is a parody based around both Magritte(His artwork…The treachery of Images…most will know as, This is not a Pipe.) and Banksy’s artworks being blatently copied and pasted…and sold as if owned by the new creator…Oh…and a cool converstaion about copyright in relation to graffiti that was going down in the forum at A.R.S.E. started by Ange recently.

If i stuffed up the french…sorry…pardon my french! ;-P

Awesome – very thought provoking. At the risk of sounding pretentious- I interpret this as not just a comment on wholesale cutting and pasting, but on Banksy as an archetypical ideal, if you know what I mean. The romantic ideal of the artist/rebel. And that any attempts at aspiring to the ideal actually betray the ideal.
Which is a fancy way of saying that if you really want to be cool like Banksy, you ain’t cool like Banksy…
I don’t know if this idea was implicit in the original conception, but that’s my take on it. :)

Yeah, i know what your saying…its kinda like trying a wee bit too hard. And it undermines the notion of being original and why someone might first come to being a stand out artist. My take personally was a little more along the lines of copyright vs public space vs people not creating their own original art. The conversation was really interesting in the forum, if you haven’t checked it out. Either way i agree with you and all good artworks should be open to interpretation methinks! ;)

crikey , what deep debate, either way I think its a great image for a shirt. I don’t think Banksy would mind nor Magrette for the matter.

Yeah me neither Ben. Cheers!
