If I could be a big yellow truck
Or hang out with some old yellow ducks
I could even be an old wide stripe
Down an old gray highway
We’d play all day and sing all night
Our hopes and dreams all tucked in tight
When the morning came we would feel the pain
And the ducks would fly away
Your face is flushed and your lips are red
My shoes are hiding beneath your bed
And I would do just about anything
To get inside your yellow dreams
Yellow dreams inside my head
Sweetest dreams I’ve ever had
I’ll be somewhere darling, ” she always said”
And the ducks all flew away
Yellow dreams inside my head
Those sweet old dreams when your lips were red
Sweetest dreams that were so sad
And the ducks all flew away
Somewhere darling over there
Our young love fades without a care
A single minded love affair
Is all we’ll ever be
Let’s sleep in town next time around
Our mixed up life inside this clown
Those yellow days I shared with you
Is all we’ll ever be
You’ll never know how much I cried
The day you pushed my love aside
The day I felt all by myself
And the ducks all flew away
Yellow dreams inside my head
Those sweet old dreams when your lips were red
Sweetest dreams that were so sad
And the ducks all flew away
Yellow Ducks a Song Poem by: Noell G. Phillips
This is a poem I’ve tried to convert to song and music. Let me know if you think it’s worth anything and you might want to sing it to an old lover sometime !
