Fishermen's Nightmare
I shot this earlier this morning 10/18/08 on the Jones Valley arm of Shasta Lake about16 miles North East of Redding, CA . The lake is an alarming wake up call to conserve water as the bank you are seeing in this image is usually under water. We have had and are still in a drought here in Northern CA; the lake level was down 150 plus feet from the crest last time I caught the news…..a few days ago. Many fishermen lost their set-ups on these trees while they were still under water…....we drove for several miles beyond where the normal boat ramp would be…..fishermen are putting boats in the lake using a dirt boat ramp now…......the third boat ramp since the drought began. Shasta Lake is well known around the world for it’s recreation uses including boating, camping, and fishing. Some of the species more dominant are Bass, Crappie and Trout.

This is way too scary! I try not to think about it too much other than doing my part to keep this from happening. There are so many scary things going on (like the melting of the Poles) that if I think about it I find I get really depressed. Absolutely fantastic image and message.

Well captured Joyce, thank you for sharing the info about what is going on in N. CA…. Lets hope things change soon my friend ! We all need to do our part !!

Scary indeed, I remember parts of southern England in the 1970’s 80’s and 90’s having droughts, rivers and lakes drying up etc… now all they get is rain rain rain.. floods floods floods.. lol, the weather is always changing, always has done… but it can be very worrying sometimes..
Beautifully composed Joyce!!

a beautiful shot but very disturbing. Being in S. Calif., this drought is scary. When you see something that illustrates it so well it makes me wonder if it is global warming or just a cycle of weather. And what about the fish and other creatures that lived in these bodies of water?
Joyce Dickens,... replied
Hi John, yes it is a very real concern ........... thanks for stopping by; I appreciate the lovely comment.

Whatever is happening to our global climate, we ALL need to take heed of the many warnings we’ve had over Global Warming and sadly we are now starting to feel the effects of it in a very serious way, a sad sight to see Joyce and I hope it all improves soon for everyone’s sake,
Regards, Rod.
Joyce Dickens,... replied
Hi Rod….....I appreciate your comment on this image….I am wondering if this lake will reach the crest of the dam again in 2009…....it won’t unless we have a very wet winter .

Oh my goodness, this is dreadful. Having lived in the area for a few years it breaks my heart to see and hear about this. Hope relief comes soon. This was such a fantastic place for people to get away and enjoy some leisure time.
