Steady As I Go

My world trembles beneath me
No grasp to hold me down
Life experience has taught me
Below the surface solid sounds
Of future walks of being

So while past fears do fall
I recognized through passage
There is no ground at all
Sometimes only a place to lie my head
I know this feeling past not dead
For me or no man smart

Simply the power not possessed
To detour what lies ahead
And as the world evolves around me
I balance my footing upon its ridges
And walk along its rough edges
Stepping steady to what I know
