The Danavi

A real life experience…

This painting was inspired by the episode of Lord Shiva and Maa Kaali in the Hindu mythology……an unstoppable dance of destruction…so Lord Shiva had to lie down in Maa Kaali’s way to put an end to this…She stumbles…her tongue juts out in remorse…as she realizes that She was about to step on the Lord, Her Creator Himself…as the legend goes…

Like this better than the black-and-white version, this is stronger with emotions.

I agree, we live in a world of color, many an expressive detail that is so very visible in this version has merged with the tones of black and white…The Danavi’s tongue for instance…the old world charm of black and white has it’s own ways to highlight the other details…the sensation of whirling in a dance trance is far more pronounced in the B&W version…so both seem to have their own merits I think…thanks indeed for you insight and a very valuable assessment machandel…much appreciated.
