This is the Rift Valley Trail in Taos, NM, on the East rim of the Rio Grande Rift. This is a mountain biking trail that winds through 9 miles of sage and pine, taking you right to the edge of the rift itself. You can’t tell from this image, but the trail rises and falls over a 600 foot elevation as it nears the rift and crosses several draws (stream beds) that lead to the rift.

On a hot summer afternoon, the rain storm was a welcome relief.

Best seen large.. the sign in the foreground clearly says “Rift Valley Trail”, by the way.

I like this in B&W as well as color. The B&W version really highlights the textures.
