This is the overlook to “El Malpais” in the U.S. National Monument by the same name in western New Mexico. The sandstone cliffs I’m standing on are millions of years old, made of “zuni sandstone.” The valley floor below is coated with 3000-6000 year old lava flows (the black rocks you see below).
