The Gorge Bridge was opened in September of 1965 (coincidentally, near my birthday!). The bridge is 1280 feet long, and stands 650 above the Rio Grande.

This picture was taken from the West Rim Mountain Bike Trail along the Rio Grande Rift in Taos, New Mexico, maintained by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

According to Wikipedia, in 1966 the American Institute of Steel Construction awarded the bridge “Most Beautiful Steel Bridge” in the “Long Span” category.

[This is a three-exposure, +/- 2 auto-braketed HDR image edited in Aperture and Photomatix. Captured using a Canon 5D MKII, using a Tamron 28-300 VC lens.]
