Artist's Description

In a season of massive forest fires in Arizona and New Mexico, sunsets can be quite dramatic! This image shows a sunset over the Taos Valley near the Rio Grande rift area in Northern New Mexico, US. The smoke plume initiates in the left side of the image, and is carried by winds across the Western horizon to make this sunset extra-dramatic. You can see the smoke rising… that is over 70 miles distant. (The skies are just different in this part of the world. Perhaps it’s the 7000 ft elevation.)

Canon 5D MK II, Tamron 28-300 VC, 3 images AEB +/-2, tripod mount, processed in aperture and the photomatix plugin
