This image was one of a sequence I took to compose a time lapse. I am frankly surprised at what the a77 sensor could see.

At this time of year the Milky Way is largely below the horizon for most of the night. This shot was taken just before the first glimmer of dawn, at 4:37am.

Here is the time lapse

Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 @ 12mm

Are you using a motor on your tripod to compensate for the earth’s rotation? It’s a glorious image, BTW.

  • Thanks Stefan. No motor. Use the 600 Rule. Divide 600 by the (35mm equivalent)) focal length (16) equals 37.5 secs for the exposure.
