Rainy Day in the City
Thought I’d get a bit wet and go into the heart of the city for a walk. Shots taken with a D mk3 and 70-200 f/2.8IS – blessed are those with rain proof gear.

Tips for shooting in the rain:
- I’ve found that with an extra large large rain jacket i can sling my camera underneath and keep it dry as i walk around in the rain
- put your camera over your shoulder and then put your rain jacket over the top
- be careful of non weather proof camera gear – use it under shelter when you can and don’t risk trying to take it out in the rain
- when shooting wet tarmac or dark paving make sure you use a bit of exposure compensation (i suggest -2/3 of a stop )
- don’t try to use an umbrella when shooting – you’ll need an extra hand and you can see what can happen from the above images
- if your camera bag isn’t waterproof then cut a plastic bag up to help to keep out most of the water
- dry out your bag and gear thoroughly when you get home – the foam protection in the bag will take a lot of drying

8 is a classic, and 4 is great !

John, all the photos are great in their own way.
My personal fav’s are 6 and 4. 6 because I love a well seen romantic shot, and 4 because I really like a photographer that has a keen eye and that can make a photo from nothing…........well, not nothing but to most non photogs, the pavement is nothing. So, kudos to you on each and every photo here, and for having the balls to go out and challenge yourself on such a gray and miserable day.
Cheers John
