Many thanks for visiting my Red Bubble page. If you’d like to see more original paintings, please check out my new website @ nina-smart-art.com (launched April 2014)
In my figurative paintings I employ fluid acrylics to express a personal perception of self and others and the changing nature of how we relate. In a time when technology brings many alternative means of communication, my art focus’ on the fear, anxiety and potential isolation that information overload threatens to inspire in our lives as life becomes less physical and less familiar.
In recent times, I have been inspired to revisit a favorite childhood subject to paint, horses. For me, painting horses no longer relies on accurate representation as it did years ago. When I earned a living from commissioned equine portraits I believed photorealism was the key but now its all about the spirit of the horse and I try not to dwell on perfect conformation or physical traits – I’ll leave that for the photographers of the world!
