Best friends
I painted this image this morning using a 2B pencil on hotpress Archers hotpress paper, tinting the image using watercolour.
This is an illustration of my daughter Charlie with her best friend Liam; they’ve known each other since they were 6 weeks old. Liam and Charlie don’t see each other as often since we moved to the mountains but when they get together it’s like they were never apart.

Beautiful! I love the pastel colours and the simple style.
It has a children’s storybook illustration feel about it.
Am I right in guessing that is also what you do?

Hi Simon, Yes you guessed it…I am a childrens book illustrator. I haven’t had the opportunity to illustrates humans in a picture book…yet…I’ll be doing my first book with kids late next year. I still think I need a bit of practice.

Looking at your work some more, this one is just so endearing, so well drawn and painted, also reminds me of 2 people I knew who grew up next door to eachother, eventually married, still are.. sometimes it seems like destiny, who can say?!

Thanks for your comments, to be honest, I can’t imagin my daughter ever getiing married – she is such a free spirit. We will just have to see what destiny has in mind for her.
