The Steller’s Jay is a very dark blue bird but in the bright sunlight they glow electric blue. The inland birds have a distinctive white eyebrow. This is the only crested jay found in many areas west of the Rocky Mountains. They eat insects, fruit and seeds and as you can see peanuts. In the mornings the “Gang of Five” sit on my balcony and squawk until I come out to feed them. This one is young as you can still see the fledgling feathers on the top of its head.
