There’s something about the natural New England landscape around the vernal equinox that is at once sickening and euphoric, evocative of a Cindy Sherman photograph. The vegetation hasn’t quite caught up with the overexposed sun, so everywhere is the threatening, diseased posture of unadorned trees against an unnaturally blue sky – the grotesque nightmare of a fairy tale.
