The Green Heron is one of the few tool-using birds. It commonly drops bait onto the surface of the water and grabs the small fish that are attracted. It uses a variety of baits and lures, including crusts of bread, insects, earthworms, twigs, or feathers. There were 3 of us trying to capture this little guy as I moved around to see if I could see him better he jumped up right in front of me. Captured at The J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Florida.
