Went out with Gina ,liz and Luda in search of Burrowing Owls, most were staying in their burrows but we did find a few.
The Burrowing Owl is a tiny, but long-legged owl.
They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs . Unlike most owls, burrowing owls are often active during the day, although they tend to avoid the mid-day heat. Most hunting is still done from dusk until dawn, like many owls, when they can use their night vision and hearing to their advantage. The burrowing owl is endangered in Canada, threatened in Mexico, and a species of special concern in Florida and most of the western USA. It is a state-endangered species in Colorado.Height: About 10 inches.
Weight: Average is about 6 ounces.
Unlike most owls in which the female is larger than the male, the sexes of the burrowing owl are the same size
