a disaster left behind
The original Sunshine Skyway Bridge crossing over Tampa Bay , Florida was destroyed in May 1980, when a freighter collided with a pier during a storm, on the southbound lanes, sending over 1200 feet of the bridge into Tampa Bay. The collision caused six automobiles and a Greyhound bus to fall 150 feet , killing 35 people. The concrete material were collected in order to be placed offshore and along the remaining bridge approaches to become artificial reefs, and this some of the bridge that is left. best view large

Passers by not knowing, would be oblivious to this heart breaking piece of history..
I was stationed in Bilioxi, Mississippi during Hurricane Camille, in 1969. I went down to visit in ‘86, to show my wife and knew all the skeltons that lay around..broken homes.. etc. it was a weird feeling…
kathy s gillen... replied
thanks so much, yes it is sad and most people don;t know what they pass by. We have the same here with Huricanne Charlie & Wilma, so many broken lives
