My hometown – Windsor, Ontario:

Windsor was a site of conflict during the War of 1812, a major entry point into Canada for refugees from slavery via the Underground Railroad and a major source of liquor during American Prohibition.

Windsor, Ontario, Canada, was a major rum-running port in the early part of the 20th century. In 1916, the State of Michigan, in the United States, adopted Prohibition. Alcohol was smuggled from Ohio until Prohibition became national in 1919. From then on, the City of Windsor, Ontario became a major site for alcohol smuggling and gang activity.
