This lovely old brush shop used to be on Victoria Street about 200 yards up from the Grassmarket, Edinburgh. I took this photograph in 2001 on a Mamiya 645 using Ilford FP4, printed on Ilford FB and sepia toned. The next time I went to Edinburgh about 4 years later the shop had gone after 130 years!

Beautiful shot, Nigel…I especially love the tones! Wonderful!

  • Thanks Karen, such a shame when these characterful old shops get knocked out by the advent of a new Superstore in the locality! Personally, I think these huge new shopping malls springing up all over are eventually self defeating, as when the heart of an old community disappears and it gets boarded up and overtaken by urban blight, then we all loose out.
