The Casa de la Panadería (Bakery House) dominates one side of the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. The building has been remodeled several time since 1790, most notably in 1880. A contest was held in the 1988 to replace the 1914 mural. The artist Carlos Franco won with a design based on classical mythological figures including Proserpine, Cybele, Bacchus, and Cupid as well as other images representing the history of Madrid and the Plaza Mayor.

Trained in the UK as an archaeologist and anthropologist, most of my images reflect my continuing fascination with the prehistoric and historic past. Images of non-European cultures and historic landscapes also play a large part in my work.
