This picture was taken in Puzzle Wood, which is an old shallow iron mine. It dates back to before Roman times, some 2,700 years. The whole wood has an eerie and unusual feel because of the way the rock has been mined and the way plants and trees have subsequently grown.
It is said that J.R. Tolkien, who visited here, used it as the basis for ‘Middle Earth’ in The Lord of the Rings.

Focused enough and distorted enough to be wondermous. Well done!

  • Thanks. I wanted to get a creepy feel because of it’s connections to Tolkien. No Hobbits though!
