Melbourne City Lights by

Night view of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct and city skyline from South Melbourne.

This photo and a second one were commissioned by a guy who sees this gorgeous view of Southbank and Melbourne’s city skyline every day from his 12th floor apartment. So why does he need a photo? Because his view is about to be blocked thanks to construction of a new building nearby. It was an easy shoot, and quite fun once I got used to being up so high on his balcony with only a thin pane of glass between me and the ground far below!

About Nicole a Alley

I am a photographer, a writer, a seeker of whimsy, wisdom and beauty in the everyday. I aim to live from my heart, not my head, and look beyond the surface of life.

From the otherworldly landscape of a flower seen through my macro lens, to the beauty of a tree stump, to a surprisingly profound piece of graffiti scrawled on the wall of a bus, I point my lens at whatever captures my heart.

    Excellent night capture!

  • Thanks Gerry! Night time photography is a new thing for me so I’m super pleased with the result. That view (from a 12th floor apartment) is gone as of today – there’s a crane in the middle, reaching into the sky, about to construct apartments that will block it even more.

That is a shame… They always seem to do that! Or chop down beautiful trees! Still at least you will have a great reminder of how it do look at one time…. Cheers Gerry

  • Yes on the tree thing – that’s always sad to see. I’ve been checking out your portfolio and there are many wonderful shots. I particularly love the Scotland ones – I lived in Edinburgh for the best part of a year and it remains one of my favourite cities.
