Can all those at the front pay attention please

At this time of the season the corn fields are just developing and when you look over the flat lands which stretch for miles . It looks like a patch work of different shades of barley and wheat fields with potatoes rows in there acres . The saddest time for me is when the corn is cut and there is bareness around . It is when the seemingly over eagerness of collecting the crops in as soon as possible with what seems heavier and faster machinery each year .
When it was once a slower process of characters enjoying the season and the feel of the countryside , land and nature .
And you learnt so much from them about what you can and couldn’t eat from berries to mushrooms and wild garlic etc.
And then you hear of moaning of none profits from farmers under pressure from supermarkets wanting the best price . When ironically not long ago all profited in many ways .
School holidays were for wild oating. Farmers would wait for you coming off the school bus baiting for your time in the first week of school holidays . All of us in a line with bags bigger than ourselves pulling the wild oats out of the wheat crop before they dropped .
You would often see a fox with its cubs basking in the sunshine and if l the occasional badger set . Vicious buggers though and full of TB
The money was cash in hand , and your stomach ached with the laughter of the crack of the day ,
And your pack up your mum had given you for the day was always gone by dinner . So more would have to be sent for . And a landrover would be sent around for the added collection of fresh baked scones and buns and of cause the flask of tea .
And if you were lucky you were asked to do some landwork on a tractor. Not a thought of health and safety it was just expected you learnt fast.
I hope this way will come back soon because its its only this last decade it has changed . So that the teenagers can experienced nature fist hand again . and get the balance of life back again . Or am i dreaming .
