Whether to "be in the moment" or to "capture the moment"

What do you do when you see a wonderful situation evolving…you have your camera by your side…but when you put your eye to the viewfinder you are no longer actually enjoying the moment?

This happens to me quite often where I find myself “capturing the moment” rather than being “in the moment”. I find that when I am capturing images I am concentrating hard on composition, light etc…and not looking at what is actually going on around me.

Sometimes I just leave the camera at home so I can devote 100% to whatever activity I am doing…but always then regret not having the camera when a great shot appears.

I wonder what your thoughts are on this subject?
