Something There
Oil on canvas, 18” x 14” (457×356mm
I’ve borrowed the title of a poem by Samuel Beckett for this painting. I can’t quote the whole poem but here’s a section:
at the faint sound so brief
it is gone and the whole globe
not yet bare
the eye
opens wide
wide
till in the end
nothing more
shutters it again

Yes there is something there, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Haunting, no not a bit scary, but highly emotional for me. Lost, distant, melancholy, perhaps?
Nicholas Johnston replied
I think all of those impressions sound right to me for this, many thanks
Richard Yeomans
This kinda reminds me of Francis Bacon, but not as dark. Good job!

I really like the textures. I wish I could actually see it. Nice flowing soft background creates good contrast to the figure.
