beautiful painting and style. I love the blurred look and the wonderful composition. the ways he’s cropped off and the large areas of color seem to tell a story.

  • Nicholas Johnston replied

Thanks John, using these abstract blocks is a bit of a departure, as is the palette, but I like what came out of it

Totally agree with John on this Nic, nice compositional device, particularly like the balance of the blue square

  • Nicholas Johnston replied

Thanks Josh, I had a real problem with getting the photo right though! I finally managed to get this without the lines bending

Very interesting image – kinda got a haunting quality to it, as if looking at a ghost in a photo (or something like that, I can’t describe exactly hahaha)

  • Nicholas Johnston replied

Thanks Andrew, well I’d always seen the figure on the edge of the canvas but had no idea until I started that it would come out this way. And I think it’s a big compliment when you can’t describe a picture exactly :)

It’s like he is unsure of what to do next. I like him a lot.

  • Nicholas Johnston replied

Thanks Steve, the painting follows several that I abandoned… too many recent influences maybe

Great use of colour and tone. A very contemplative work here Nick – the figure doesn’t look comfortable where he stands, but is perhaps reluctant to move..

  • Nicholas Johnston replied

I like your interpretation, Izzy, thanks

I agree with everyone and haunting it is…as so much of your work is…a special quality indeed.
