MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGE

A boutique shopping street in Perth, Western Australia before the retail therapy begins on a saturday morning. The sun was shining and I had slow film and a fast lens!.

taken with my Leica MP, 50mm noctilux lens, 1/1000 sec and about f4. Velvia 50 film. Slight crop and perspective straightening in Photoshop

Ken Rockwell’s review of the new Velvia 50 compares it very favourably to the original and it’s his film of choice.

Feeling satisfied with a new photograph … that makes it a good day.

Good point of view and lovely light, Nadine. I like that angle. Doesn’t look as though anything is wrong with our economy, either. Well done!

  • thanks so much, jan – it needs a figure in there but I was really pleased with the technical aspects. I think it’ll look great printed – the grain is so fine on that velvia 50 film. Thanks so much for commenting in your usual thoughtful way.

    Really well done ! :)

  • thanks so much, stan, for commenting – I’ll have to lurk around there and wait for some shots with people in them

That looks stunning Nadine. I love the Velvia effect, it differentiates the colours so wonderfully from ordinary digital captures.

  • what a lovely comment thanks so much, fe! I think I’ve found my favrorite film all right.

Great shot Nadine especially considering the scene was lit by direct sunlight. But this helped enhance the texture of the main building in the image.

  • thanks, brian, for this thoughtful comment – so maybe velvia 50 is the answer to that harsh Perth sunlight – darn those cloudless skies!

Hey Nadine it’s been a long time since I used Fuji Velvia but I remember all the rage when it first came out. Nice to see you can make a very nice image out of “hard light”!

  • Ken Rockwell’s review of the new Velvia 50 compares it very favourably to the original and it’s his film of choice. I’m still experimenting with different films, lens, cameras, films and digital, etc, but I had a real WOW moment when I saw the scan of this one. I think I’ll stick with this combination for a while and see what I can produce with it.
