Ooh, I want to be considered a discerning RedBubbler, too! If I could make one wee comment, however, I hadn’t remarked earlier with wild abandon – although I love the pensive person beneath the tree – because I tend to prefer images without vignettes. Just a small nit, however. Art is so subjective; I love the off-center reader.
nadine henley replied
of course you’re a discerning RBbler, jan! one of the most discerning, in fact! and i value your opinion so please feel free to comment honestly. thanks for taking another look at this. I usually don’t like strong vignettes either so this was an experiment and I decided I did like it here. I think it is because it contains the reader somehow, even seems a bit protective of him – allowing him this safe place to be absorbed in a book. But, yes, it is all so subjective and there is an infinite number of combinations and variations to choose from when you start getting into post processing. That’s why it’s such fun!

G’day Nadine!
This has been processed nicely to reduce it to its basic elements and the high contrast result with its limited tonal range works very well indeed.
I do feel though that if you were to remove all evidence of “things-in-the-water” you would keep the minimalistic theme and that if you were to flip the image horizontally the man would then appear in the more prominent left side of frame. (Just a thought).
The detail is clear and the isolation of the reader has been handled well.
Most intersting and enjoyable viewing.

PS: I also feel that the vignetting is not overdone due to the high contrast image you have created. (Just a thought MkII).

D!
nadine henley replied
thanks so much dennis for these thoughtful comments – I wondered if anyone would say anything about the things in the water – wasn’t sure whether they helped to show it was water, or just distract. I hadn’t tried a horizontal shot and would never have thought of flipping – so I’ll have fun going back and trying those sugestions, Please keep these great suggestioins coming – I am a novice at all this! I appreciate your expertise and time.
mausue
Striking and haunting shot. Love it!
Things in the water are a little distracting but didn’t notice them until I read above reply as I was immediately drawn to the right side of the image!
