man with hat

man with hat

Taken on the south west coast of Australia, near Walpole. I was wanting to try out the f1 capability of the lens so my subject moved into deep shade in a shelter. The depth of field is so shallow that only the left eye is sharp.

portrait with leica MP, f1 noctilux lens @f1, velvia 100 film
cropped in photoshop and highlights on shirt darkened

Hmm! Handsome man and a great crop, Nadine, on this lovely portrait. Love the ironic title with your tight crop, by the way. I think the rakish angle of his shoulders and that one partially raised eyebrow lens much to the attitude in this portrait – that, and the catchlight in his eyes. Nicely done!
I have to attack portraiture next in my photo course, and have procrastinated for months now. You inspire me. May I borrow him?

  • nadine henley replied

thanks jan but he’s not mine to loan out! the hat had caught the light and was a big distraction which is why i cropped it so tight but i quite like the hint of it in the lanyard. Good luck with the portrait course.
