For some years I lived on the 19th floor of a council estate tower block, and as expected got to meet and know quite well some of the others I was living with….
The diversity of characters there, (and their lifestyles) was something I’d always wanted to portray in a more iconic way than I might usually (although painting at this size, I had to wait until I was living in a bigger place first).

Oil on canvas (with sand, papier-mache, brick powder, earth & cardboard)

48 inches X 48 inches

Chris, this a beautiful piece…a Mayan feel to it…very rich…tobey

  • Hi Tobey – Thank you !!
Yes; I wanted it to have an iconic (past & present) feel to it, so ‘Mayan’ sounds about right in some respects… Cheers :)

Cool piece – all earthy and dug-up looking. Neat idea to “iconize” your fellow dwellers.

  • Tama, my dear… you hit the nail on the ‘ultimate head’ there…. :)
I wanted this painting to ‘appear’ as though some hapless archeologist(s) had dredged this up from the seabed; only to discover that the correlation between their era (and ours) was but ephemeral…. (You sussed me!!!) Wishes :;)

GASP!!! Oh my ,this is wonderful Chris!!!! WOWOWOWOWOW

  • Varry – I’m so very happy you appreciate this piece ;)
I LOVE chucking down heavy textures and the avoiding the ‘prissiness’ of more detailed work sometimes (often, in fact – very often…. ;)
I’m submitting one more detailed graphite piece…. then that’s it for me ;)
