Mongolian Meeting by Chris Baker

Canvas Prints

In painting this group, I greatly enjoyed depicting the richness of colour, texture and light, and aimed also to capture something of the spirit & culture exhibited by these wonderful people.
They are sitting in a yurt, listening attentively to a european translator describing the differences between our culture and their own.

Chris, just added you to my watchlist. I’m very impressed with your ability to handle sharp contrasts, and yet keep the richness in your colors. This is an amazing piece. Welcome to RB.

  • Thanks a bunch Jim – really kind of you :)
I see you’ve created a quality range of work, and using different media also – love your watercolor of the model especially :)

Chris, this is so fantastic….I was drawn to the way you painted the ‘light’….
    just inspiring!
    Cathy

  • Thank you so much Kathy – Yes; this painting was always going to be about the light essentially – I should have mentioned that in the centre of the yurt is an old iron stove that gave off a rich peachy-golden glow – quite the opposite of the cold, stark intense light coming from outside….
