I’ve been a freelance fine artist / graphic designer since finishing my BA (graphic design) in 1993 and think I have one of the most wonderful careers in the world!

I used to do primarily graphic design and can literally say I managed to fall into fine art and textile art. In 98 I managed to trip down some stairs which left me with a crushed vertebrae and around 6 months of having to be horizontal almost all the time. I decided since there wasn’t a whole lot I could do (sitting down was completely out of the question) to order in an easel, canvasses and oil paints over the phone. I’d always wanted to do oils but could never validate the cost as I didn’t know if Fine art would sell.

I loved it though, as the 15 minutes or so I could be upright for was enough to do quite a bit using thick paint with palette knives. You can imagine when you spend the rest of your day looking at the ceiling or watching teleivision how great it feels to actually be able to do something even for a small amount of time! Luckily the work just started to sell as fast as I could paint – which I admit was quite slowly!

Since then i’ve never looked back. I love playing with different media from digital abstracts to botanical water colours. I’ve even done a painting entirely in iron oxide and rust activator and have recently branched into textile art which I am really enjoying.

Up until now I’ve been selling both through exhibitions and to existing clients and have just started my own website that includes easy to make textile patterns for fusable appliqués and other textile art designs along with fine art and graphic design slide shows of many of my works.
