The Hunter-
This Australian Barn Owl (Tyto javanica) was found near a roadside in North Qld. I was lucky to get a couple of shots before it fled the spotlight.
You can clearly see one the (many) adaptations for nocturnal hunting. The fringed primary feathers (leading feathers on the wing) enable this owl to fly silently so it can catch it’s prey unawares.
Barn Owls feed on insects, small mammals and reptiles.
The Hunter- belongs to the following groups:
Australian Wildlife, Birds and Creatures of Flight, Birds Of Prey (3 per day), Eye Contact (Animals Only), High Quality Animal Images - 1 Submission a Week, I Love Birds, Nature's Wonders and The Birds Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters
