Son of David

Born to Lead, was David’s Son,
though Earthly Honours were not Won.
In exile raised, the Pharaoh’s land,
amoungst the Nile and Dunes of sand.
To distant places, Strange and far,
traversed intrepid Yeshua.
Until to Zion, he returned,
Upon his lips, the Gospel Burned.

He Walked on Water, Raised the Dead,
with tiny Fishes Crowds were fed.
Drove out Demons into swine,
turned pure water into wine.
Touched eyes dim, so blind men saw,
sanctified the sullied whore.
With eloquence and endless Wit,
He Mocked Allowed the hypocrite.

Toleration he thus Taught,
in thy Brother find no fault.
Don’t point specks out in his eye,
lead not children hence awry.
In Secret Pray, heed my Word,
there alone, ye shall be heard.
Love one another, I Decree,
that’s the Way, can’t you see?

Save us please, you often wail,
with thy Hammer, Whip and Nail.
Tell me then about thy loss,
when it’s you upon the Cross.
If Truth you want, go and search,
perhaps eslewhere instead of Church.
Not outside, but in the Heart,
that’s the Perfect Place to Start.

Okay, in all seriousness, you’re a very gifted writer which I’m sure you know, because you can feel the flow of your writing when you create, that being said, it takes a lot of talent to pen a poem that is kind of ‘religious’ in theme, and create an impression on someone as agnostic and of zero-faith such as myself. Although I don’t believe in god or jesus, there’s a lot of lessons to be learnt in the scriptures, and also, possibly, in the way that they have been twisted and manipulated in order to serve, alternative, less wholesome purposes. Your poem strips back everything to the very essence of what those lessons are and what the words mean. That’s why I think it’s very good. :-)

Wow Jen, you totally got it, that’s exactly the point I was trying to make, strip away all the religious control nonsene down to it’s bare bones or wisdom and purity, that scripture (All Scripture Contains) The message has been manipulated, even the BIble itself has been ‘tampered’ with, hence I always read between the lines, therein it’s hard to go wrong ;)

I too am interested in some things, I read the Bible about once a week, and though i’m not religious I do find the words rather comforting. In saying that, i’m fascinated in Spiriuality in all its many facets…Thankyou for taking the time to read this piece ;)

I like the common sense here, it reminds me a lot of my mom. Though I don’t know some of the Biblical aspects that you refer to here (Son of David to me refers to Solomon, is it the same?), I can appreciate the message in this.

One of the first poems in my favorites is one by Leon Walker called Illusion.

You’re absolutely right, Solomon was a Son of David, infact Jesus was supposedly descended from that Line. However in the Bible, there’s a few instantaces where people refer to Jesus as Son of David…I think I was trying to be obscure ;)

P.S. that poem was pretty good, I just took a look at it.

    Max,
I do believe in One Living God and in His Son Jesus Christ. It used to sadden me to hear that people are so “out there” to think we come from nothing. I read another’s comments on how we are “dust and dust has static and clings together.” or something to that extent, what made the dust to breathe and have a living soul? Science cannot explain that one. I have had the pleasure of many instances to be in the presence of the Lord Himself, so I cannot expect others who have not had these joyful experiences to believe in someone they cannot see. But, there are many around me that I can see and I cannot believe in any of them. Some may be wealthier, some may be healthier, some may be prettier, but only one can save my soul. I hope that you believe, for if you didn’t, possibly for you I’d grieve. Too bad people cannot just appreciate the beauty of your words without tearing down it’s inspiration. Beautiful words, Beautiful hope. I like to believe that there is somewhere better than just this.

    Sarai,
I truly appreciate you taking the time to write your comment. To be honest I don’t consider myself a Christian, or an adherent to any organized religion. I do however consider myself a spiritual person, and have more fair share of experiences. As for Jesus, well I believe him to have been an enlightened man, one of many throughout the world. As for being the Son of God, well in my opinion we’re all God’s children, I see us primarily as existing within the Mind of God, that we are essentially manifold thoughts within the Divine Mind. Furthermore, that we are vessals of sensation through which the Most High, can experience himself in a variety of ways. getting back to Jesus, well I enjoy his teachings immensely and it upsets me when I see all these hypocrites in the World, who claim to be devout Christians, yet diplay nothing but hate for their fellow man, not to mention making Judgements, when it is not out place. Personally I believe that Jesus’s message has been forgotten, hence I have included a lot of what I like about Jesus’s words in my poem, I only pray it has done the orginal material a small degree of Justice. Thankyou again.

    M

P.S. Dust we are not, but energy, energy never dies, only changes form, that we are expressions of God’s Love.

It is sad to see the hardened heart of so many who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe it is only because once we believe there are powers not seen that work against us, and instead of bringing the reality of the Messiah to the forefront, it brings the madness of the world closer to reality. Personally, I know He is with me because only he could prevent me from not being one of those who hate. I am not always a nice person and I am very opinionated about how people should treat each other. Loving those who hurt others can only be done through a power greater than what I am or anything the universe puts out there, except the presence of a loving Saviour to walk with me to keep my tongue and heart in check.

Max I don’t know how you get into my head… lol. One of God’s gifts to David was that the messiah was to come from his bloodline. I wish more Christians would look more closely at his story… David wasn’t perfect but he was a man after God’s own heart. God loved him despite his affair with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband. We are all children of a loving God- even if we mess up- he is still going to love us. I wish more people would accept that. :)
