Connection
Oil on canvas, 2006. 1000×1000mm
In this painting I am exploring a connection with pure energy and the journey which that entails. It is also, however, speaking of a particular moment on that journey – the moment in which the essence that we all share is transforming. It is a fusion and transmutation of all the elements … fire turning to water, air turning to earth.
This could be a small moment or a momentous one – but at that point the entire Universe is at play.

I am drawn to this images density, dark/light, pos/neg/, known/unknown and fiery appeal!
Deborah Milligan replied
thankyou elfevans. I’m sorry I took so long to reply, I must’ve missed the fact that you had commented. And it is such an observant response … the painting is, in a way, about the known and the unknown combining to create the new. Past, combining with present to create future.

my interpretation is very maternal, with a hand on a swollen belly that contains a bundle of pure energy. very thought provoking.
Deborah Milligan replied
mmm … I do like your interpretation Cain. that wasnt my intention but it does have that element to it, and i can absolutely feel it when i look at it with that interpretation in mind. cheers, deb
