Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava, Spain is an ancient village. This image shows the Castellated walls of the town, which were built in the 12th Century in defence against pirates. The townspeople all lived within these walls.
In 1931, the Vila Vella of Tossa was declared a National Historical-Artistic Monument. The city walls in the Cape of Tossa are currently the only example of a fortified mediaeval town that still remains on the Catalan coast. (from costabrava.org)
