Canterbury Plains
One of many shots taken from my wonderful balloon trip from Methven above the Canterbury Plains, South Island, New Zealand.
This is the third in the set following on from preparing for liftoff and inflation
I chose this photo because it shows the beautiful patchwork fields that spread as far as the eye can see; the beautiful Southern Alps; the unique and typical braided rivers of the area; and the irrigation canal that siphons underneath the river.
I know you won’t be able to feel the exhilleration that I fellt, but hope this image gives you some idea.
For those of you who have already seen this image, my apologies – I uploaded it again because it appears there was a problem with the original upload.

Is that the Waimak? Fantastic shot!! When I go back, I am definitely going up in one of those balloons :o)
Neil Boucher replied
Not sure Jane, I can find the exact spot on Google Maps but the river isn’t named. It runs down to to the south of Methven, close by Asburton Forks and meets up with another river near Ashburton.
Thanks for your comments. I believe it is a MUST DO for anyone visiting the Christchurch area.
