The Body of Christ - Oil on Linen 1m x 1m
My entry for the Blake Religious Art Prize Australia – unfortunately I just received a nice letter which while praising my work also mentioned that I was not successful in being selected as a finalist – buggar!

As a Christian, I consider this to be very respectful, but maybe some pedantic person read some sinister symbolism into the bread (body of our Lord) in the toaster … who knows. The painting itself is superb. I am particularly impressed by the lettering on the bread wrapper … that is incredibly precise work and I’d love to be able to do such work myself … respect!

Thanks Blyth, I didn’t set out in this painting to load it with symbolism but like every painting it’s open to interpretation. I suppose if I was looking for symbolism I could say that the bread in the toaster symbolised Christ death on the cross??? or it could be just a domestic element of the kitchen itself???

Fabulous still life – Love the glint making the red wine glass the focal point. Your attention to detail, while still composing a beautiful painting is very impressive!
