“A story is told that Whistler once painted a tiny picture of a spray of roses. The artistry involved in the picture was magnificent. Never before, it seemed, had the art of man been able to execute quite so deftly a reproduction of the art of nature. The picture was the envy of the artists who saw it, the despair of the collectors who yearned to buy it. But Whistler refused steadfastly to sell it. ‘For,’ he said, ‘whenever I feel that my hand has lost its cunning, whenever I doubt my ability, I look at the little picture of the spray of roses, and say to myself, ‘Whistler, you painted that. Your hand drew it. Your imagination conceived the colors. Your skill put the roses on the canvas.’ Then, said he, ’I know that what I have done, I can do again’ ” – Sterling W. Sill -
“A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What one can be, one must be.” – Abraham H. Maslow -
*If I was going to describe myself in three words, I have to say:
“A Creative Soul.”*
Considering the advice and experience of Whistler, I have found it to be true for me as well: I often need to seek work that I am very happy with so that I can rekindle an artistic confidence in myself, to push myself forward, and to add to my portfolio and improve my skills.
I am neither settled, nor fully at peace, but I continue to battle onward.
I’ve shot Feature Stories for magazines, mostly on Malaysian Historical Subjects, such as the Kris (the ancient Malay sword), Jewelry and Classical Dance. My stories and photographs have been Published in “GOLD”, “BLADE”, “DANCE TEACHER NOW” and “DANCE SPIRIT” Magazines. I’ve had photographs published in local Malaysian tourism publications, The Star and the New Straits Times Newspapers. In October 2008, I did the cover artwork for ‘Million Dollar Reload’ (M$R), an Irish Rock Band, for their latest album.
I just want to take better photographs each time I go out to photograph.
