My Neighbour, his name is Norman Lamb, known as Mark, a name he is still proud to explain- as a village lad years ago and a keen footballer, the opposing team fans would yell “mark Lamb” as he was dangerous when he had the ball, hence the name Mark stuck, just one of the many stories this bright, bubbly and friendly man talks of, although his exploits in the War which includes being a POW are his main talking points and fond memories,.Most of his old friends and contacts are dead, but he is never short of visitors joining him for a cuppa and a daily chat.
We, 3 girlfriends and myself spend some evenings with him, enjoying his favourite tipple Ouzo,( which he can out drink us, and still be ‘going’ when we are wanting our beds) keeping him company and listening to his funny, sad, brave, odd, and always interesting memories.!
He will be 97 in April and we are preparing already for his 100th Birthday celebrations in the Village Hall!
